Gabin FORCIER (year of 2023), currently on his gap year, is embarking on a 6-month documentary project to meet with young Esperantists from all over Europe. The idea is to discuss their relationship with Esperanto and to understand why they decided to learn it and how they use it.

“My relationship with Esperanto began 4 years ago now, when I saw a historical presentation video about how the language has changed over the years. However, it was not until February 2021 that I began learning the language actively. During this learning process, I met with Esperantists from a variety of backgrounds, and this confirmed my wish to realise a project involving young Esperantists”, Gabin explains.

The aim of this documentary is to present the language to people unfamiliar with it; it will therefore be very largely in Esperanto. Some sections may however be in English, where the people encountered do not speak Esperanto. Subtitles will of course be available in different languages (French, English and Esperanto) in order to make this documentary widely accessible.

”With regard to my trip, hitchhiking is an opportunity to encounter and talk to many people, whether or not they are Esperantists! I also want to be able to move as freely as possible, so I will have only a light backpack with me (under 10 kg). The camera I am going to use is a DJI Osmo Pocket, a camera designed to be light and unintrusive during filming.”

This Newsletter will be accompanying Gabin on his travels over the next 6 months, so stay tuned for the next instalment on 4 February.
