Sharing experiences Alumni x Alumni : a new position in the business travel sector in the midst of a pandemic

Julie AVENEL (Class of 2007) is a specialist in the travel industry.

After graduating from EM Normandie, she began her career as a Senior Business Analyst for BCG.

In 2011, she joined American Express Global Business Travel as Strategic Planning Manager, working alongside the General Manager of the French, Belgian and Dutch offices.

Four years later, she became Director of Supplier Relations EMEA, and at the beginning of 2020, she was offered the position of Vice President of the Consulting division within the Group.

At that time, the pandemic was already sweeping the world, the economic environment was unstable, and the business travel industry, and more generally tourism, was affected.However, Julie decided to seize this opportunity, which represented a real professional challenge.

A year after taking up a telecommuting position, involving the remote management of over 150 employees and the overhaul of the unit's strategy in the context of a sector that is very much in the eye of the storm, Julie would like to talk to you about this decision, which she has no regrets about, and above all, what she has learned from it.
